Alternator Brush Orientation
Brush Control Systems Overview
This section provides an overview of the ZM6 N and ZM6 P brush control systems. It also highlights the terminology used in American systems for similar configurations.
ZM6 N: Negative Brush Control System
The ZM6 N operates as a negative brush control system. In this configuration, the positive brush must remain powered at all times. The control mechanism focuses on the negative brush, which in turn regulates the output of the alternator according to the settings on the ZM6.
ZM6 P: Positive Brush Control System
In contrast, the ZM6 P is a positive brush control system. Here, the positive brush serves as the field control, while the negative brush is connected to earth.
American System Configurations
American systems use the designations 'A' or 'B' to refer to similar configurations, as illustrated in the referenced image.
